DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION ACT
The government has made it law that all coaches on regular service will have to be able to carry wheelchair users. Whilst the principle of this is welcomed there is another side of the coin
Case One. There are services that operate with a minimum amount of profit to the operator. When the time comes that the operator has to invest in either low floor buses or vehicles with a lift, the service may then become unprofitable so it is cancelled discriminating against the remaining passengers.
Case two. There are services that operate just within the drivers hours regulation with a little leeway for delays. If the driver has to spend 5 minutes each time for a wheelchair user to board and alight, the service may breach the drivers hours regulation and therefore may not be able to operate discriminating against the remaining passengers.
Do you think that the discrimination act should be applied where practically possible maintaining the services. Or should there be exemptions?

What do you think of them?
Who should ensure that they are worn?
Do you think that the driver has enough to watch in todays traffic without having to make sure seat belts are worn
Do you think that Schools should be responsible for children wearing seat belts?

rom September it will be compulsary to wear seat belts where fitted on PSV vehicles in the UK. The responsibility for wearing the seat belts will rest with the passenger with fixed penalties of £30 or taken to court where the maximum fine is £500. This may change before September
